Temporary AC units are a big life saver in the heat of summer. We are here to bust some myths about portable units that we’ve heard floating around over the years.
With the thermometer rising, it’s a good time to go over the facts. That way you, your employees, and all of your equipment stays cool, comfortable, and in good working order this summer. Plus, it could even help you shave some money off your electric bill.
4 Myths About Portable Air Conditioning Units
Myth #1: Air conditioning is not a necessity, it’s a luxury.
This couldn’t be further from the truth. There are so many reasons that a portable AC unit is a necessity for your business. For one, it improves employee productivity when everyone is cool and comfortable. Secondly, sensitive equipment like servers and computers can overheat, malfunction, break and lose sensitive data when they become overheated.
In addition, hot and humid weather, which is a staple in Florida, creates a sanctuary for mold to form – and that’s not good for your bottom line, or your health. It will also cause paint to dry slowly, materials to swell up, and so forth.
Keeping your place of work cool in the heat of summer reduces workplace injury and illness, decreases stress on employees and electronics, and helps boost morale. All of these things and more make air conditioning an absolute necessity.
Myth #2: Keep your AC at the same temperature all day long.
You may have heard this before, but it’s only a myth. Setting your air conditioning to the same temperature all day will not save you money. The idea behind it is sound – in that keeping the room cool all day is more affordable than continually cooling down a room after it overheats.
Instead, you’re better off to change AC temperatures as needed. Also, instead of powering the unit down for the night, simply turn the AC down by about 10 degrees F whenever the building is empty. This could help you save money in the long run without making the AC work overtime when you power it back on in the morning.
Myth #3: You only need a portable AC unit if your building does not have central air.
Once again, this is a big-time myth! There are many reasons that a portable AC unit is a cost-effective solution even if your building is equipped with central HVAC. You can even save money by using a portable unit in conjunction with your existing system.
A portable AC unit is a great addition if:
- Your central AC is not working to cool off all areas of the building
- Certain parts of the building require more cooling power than others, say for instance a server room.
- You only need to use the AC in certain parts of the building, therefore running the entire central system is a waste of money.
- There are hot spots in the room or building
- Your central AC is getting old and not working as well as it once did
Myth #4: You must buy a portable AC unit.
