Should You Rent Or Buy A Spot Cooler?

We offer the option to rent or buy portable spot coolers, but which is the best option for you? That depends on the amount of time you need the spot cooler, overall cooling needs and future plans.

There are countless scenarios that require a spot cooler, from a tent wedding to a weekend-long work conference to a hot server room. Spot coolers are also popular in emergency scenarios; say for instance a main power source or central AC system shuts down.

Our customers often ask us if it makes more sense to rent or buy a spot cooler. There is no one-size to fit all answer. In some cases it makes more sense to rent a portable spot cooler, while other scenarios benefit from purchasing a spot cooler. Answer the following 4 questions to help you decide the best option for you.

Should You Rent Or Buy A Spot Cooler?

1. How Long Do You Need A Spot Cooler For?

Are you planning to use a spot cooler for a one-time event or every day for the next year and beyond? If you only need the spot cooler for a one-night party there’s no need to invest in purchasing a unit. You will save money by simply renting the spot cooler for the night you need it.

On the other hand, if you plan to use a spot cooler every day for the next year +, it makes more sense to buy a spot cooler. It generally takes between 4 and 5 months to break even on the purchase of a spot cooler. That means if you plan to use it day-in and day-out for 4-5 months it might be more cost effective to buy.

2. Are You Getting A Spot Cooler For An Emergency Situation?

If you are getting a spot cooler due to an emergency, you may or may not need the spot cooler after the emergency passes. In most emergency scenarios, people typically rent spot coolers until the issues related to the emergency pass. But, if you live in an area that sees a lot of storms and subsequent power outages you may want to purchase a unit that you have on hand whenever the need arises. Thankfully, as long as you have us on your speed dial you don’t necessarily need to make that sort of investment. We are open 24-hours a day to provide rapid emergency relief, delivering spot coolers right when you need them most.

3. Do You Plan To Use Your Spot Cooler(s) Seasonally?

If you plan to use your spot cooler during certain seasons but not others, you may want to consider purchasing as opposed to renting. Even if you are only using the unit during the months of June, July and August, for example, it’ll pay off to buy the spot cooler within its second year of use.

4. Are Your Cooling Needs Expected To Change?

If your cooling needs and overall setup are not expected to change in the foreseeable future, you may want to consider purchasing a spot cooler. For instance, if you own the property you operate out of and have no plans for serious expansion in the near future.

If you lease the space or have plans to expand, move or drastically alter the set up of your business, renting a spot cooler may be a more reasonable option. Of course, portable spot coolers are very adaptable and can be moved as needed, even to a different location. Therefore, even if you rent a property or plan to move in the near future, it may still make more sense to buy than rent so long as the unit will be used for 4-5+ months.

If your cooling needs are going to change, it might make more sense to rent that way you can change cooling devices as needed without having to purchase additional equipment. We offer spot coolers for sale and rent in a wide variety of sizes and powers, ranging from 115 voltage/ 1 pH/60 Hz to 480 voltage/ 3 pH/60 Hz.
